Interseptive Treatment of an Open Bite Case With Tongue Thrust and its Long Term Evaluation

Abstract

Open bite cases during growth may originate from pathogenetic factors like undesired growth pattern, oral respiration, sucking habits, abnormal tongue posture and tongue thrust. If non nutrition based sucking habits like thumb and pacifier sucking are continued after ages of 2-3, undesired dental arch formation and bad occlusal relationship will develop. Open bite cases may be treated with habit breakers as they intercept bad habits. In this case, treatment of an nine year old male subject who had open bite and tongue thrust with a practical habit breaker is aimed. Pretreatment, posttreatment and 2 years follow up materials were analyzed

İnfantil yutkunma alışkanlığına sahip açık kapanış bir vakanın interseptif yaklaşımla tedavisi ve uzun dönem takibi

Abstract

Büyüme sırasında oluşan açık kapanış olguları, istenmeyen büyüme paterni, oral solunum, emme alışkanlıkları, anormal dil postürü, fonksiyonu ve infantil yutkunma gibi patogenetik faktörlere bağlı olarak gelişebilir. Parmak ya da emzik gibi beslenme amaçlı olmayan emme alışkanlıkları bebeklerin fizyolojik ihtiyaçlarını gidererek onların rahatlamasını sağlayabilse de, bu alışkanlıklar 2 ila 3 yaşından sonra da devam ederlerse istenmeyen dental ark formasyonu ve kötü oklüzal ilişkinin oluşma olasılığı artacaktır. Alışkanlık kırıcı aygıtlar ile hastaların istenmeyen alışkanlıkları engellenebilmekte ve böylece oluşan açık kapanış tedavi edilebilmektedir. Bu vakada dil itimli yutkunmaya ve açık kapanışa sahip 9 yaşındaki erkek bir bireyin, alışkanlık kırıcı pratik bir düzenekle tedavi edilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Vakanın tedavi öncesi, tedavi sonu ve 2 yıllık takip sonu materyalleri toplanarak analizleri yapılmıştır
