The Effects of Octenidine and Chlorhexidine Sprays on Wound Healing after Non-surgical Periodontal Treatment

Year 2016, Volume: 43 Issue: 1 - Volume: 43 Issue: 1, 19 - 30, 01.02.2016

Abstract

Introduction: The aim of the study is to evaluate the effect of 1% octenidine OCT and 0.2% chlorhexidine CHX sprays on plaque and gingivitis, and to investigate the side effects of these sprays objectively and subjectively after nonsurgical periodontal treatment. Materials and Methods: Non-surgical periodontal treatment scaling and root planning was applied to 29 patients diagnosed with chronic periodontitis according to clinical and radiographic examination. Plaque index PI , gingival index GI , papilla bleeding index PBI , probing pocket depth PPD , and gingival recession GR values were recorded from the treated area. The treatments were made with 28-days intervals. Octenidine hydrochloride test and Chlorhexidine gluconate positive were applied in random by the patients. Solutions were applied topically on the operation sites for 10 days. After the periodontal treatment, on the 1st, 7th and 28th days, clinical / objective and subjective assessments were made. Results: PI, GI, PBI and PPD scores showed statistically significant decrease in all evaluation days in the test and control sites. PI, GI, PBI and PPD scores were lower in the test sites compared to the control sites in all evaluation days. Conclusion: As a conclusion, the application of OCT solution in spray forms could have positive influence on PI, GI, and PPD values following non-surgical periodontal treatment. OCT spray application may be recommended as an alternative antimicrobial agent to the patients for optimum oral hygiene in the early healing periods after non-surgical periodontal treatment

OKTENİDİN VE KLORHEKSİDİN SPREY KULLANIMININ CERRAHİ OLMAYAN PERİODONTAL TEDAVİ SONRASINDA YARA İYİLEŞMESİ ÜZERİNE ETKİSİ

Year 2016, Volume: 43 Issue: 1 - Volume: 43 Issue: 1, 19 - 30, 01.02.2016
