Evaluation of Gender Differences According to Developmental Stage in Craniofacial and Den- toalveolar Structure of Class III Subjects: Original article

Abstract

The purpose of this study is evaluation of gender differences according to developmental stage in craniofacial and dentoalveolar structure of Class III subjects as cross-sectionally. For this purpose, 90 patients 45 females, 45 males , having no orthodontic treatment history and skeleto dental Class III malocclusion included to study with their cephalometric films and handwrist films. Their cephalometric films divided into three subgroups pre-pubertal, pubertal, postpubertal according to their developmental stage by using their hand wrist films. Gender differences in Class III subjects were evaluated statistically in each developmental stage seperately by using measurements to represent craniofacial and dentoalveolar structure. It was established that, Class III malocclusion seen with maxillary retrognathia while the mandible in normal position in all groups included to study except post-pubertal males . The findings indicated that gender differences in Class III patients associated with linear dimensions in each developmental stage.

Abstract

Bu çalışmada Sınıf III maloklüzyona sahip bireylerin kraniyofasiyal ve dentoalveolar yapılarında, cinsiyete bağlı farklılıklarının üç ayrı gelişim döneminde cross-sectional olarak değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla daha önce ortodontik tedavi görmemiş ve iskeletodental Sınıf III maloklüzyona sahip 45’i kadın, 45’i erkek toplam 90 bireye ait lateral sefalometrik ve el-bilek filmi çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Kız ve erkek bireylerin sefalometrik filmleri, el-bilek filmleri vasıtasıyla gelişim dönemlerine göre üçer subgruba pre-pubertal, pubertal, post-pubertal ayrılmıştır. Sınıf III maloklüzyonlu kız ve erkek bireylerde, krani-yofasiyal ve dentoalveolar yapıları temsil etmek üzere belirlenen ölçümler vasıtası ile cinsiyete bağlı farklılıkları, her bir gelişim döneminde istatistik olarak ayrı ayrı değerlendirilmiştir. Post-pubertal erkekler hariç çalışmaya dahil edilen tüm gruplarda, Sınıf III maloklüzyonun maksiller retrognati sınırında görüldüğü, mandibular konumun ise normal sınırlar içerisinde olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Sınıf III bireylerde cinsiyete bağlı farklılıkların, her bir gelişim döneminde özellikle boyutsal ölçümler bakımından, söz konusu olduğu görülmüştür
