Effects of different prophylaxis pastes on surface roughness of enamel surface

Abstract

Purpose : The aim of this study was to compare the effect of a new prophylaxis paste with Amorphous Calcium Phosphate Enamel Pro , with pumice paste and a prophylaxis paste with fluoride Topex on the surface roughness of enamel surface. Materials and Method: 65 caries-free molars were randomly divided into five groups. A single operator polished each specimen for 15 seconds with each paste: pumice paste, Topex and Enamel Pro with either coarse, medium, or fine pumice. Pre and post-treatment surface evaluation was completed using a surface profilometer in 60 samples. One sample from each group was coated with gold and examined in scanning electron microscope SEM . The results were statistically analyzed with one-way ANOVA, Tukey’s test and Paired-Samples t-test. Results: The statistical analysis showed significant differences between surface roughness values of treated and non-treated surfaces in pumice, Topex ve Enamel Pro fine paste groups p0.05 . Conclusion: Based on profilometric and SEM analysis, all of the Enamel Pro pastes produced similar roughness on enamel surfaces when compared with pumice and Topex

Farklı proflaksi patlarının minenin yüzey pürüzlülüğü üzerine etkisi

Abstract

Amaç: Çalışmamızın amacı, ACP amorf kalsiyum fosfat içerikli yeni bir proflaksi patı Enamel Pro ile pomza ve flor içerikli proflaksi patının Topex mine yüzey pürüzlülüğü üzerine etkilerini karşılaştırmaktır. Gereçler ve Yöntem: 65 adet çürük içermeyen, daimi azı dişi rastgele beş gruba ayrıldı. Her bir örneğe ait mine yüzeyine sadece bir uygulayıcı tarafından 15 saniye boyunca her bir pat ile politür işlemi uygulandı: pomza, Topex patı ve kalın, orta, ya da ince partiküllü Enamel Pro patı. 60 örnek için işlem öncesi ve sonrası yüzey değerlendirmeleri bir yüzey profilometre cihazı ile tamamlandı. Her gruba ait birer örnek ise altın ile kaplandı ve taramalı elektron mikroskobunda SEM incelendi. Çalışmanın sonuçları tek yönlü ANOVA, Tukey testi ve eşleştirilmiş iki grup arası farklılıkların t-testi ile istatistiksel olarak analiz edildi. Bulgular: Proflaksi işlemi uygulanmadan önceki ve sonraki değerler karşılaştırıldığında pomza, Topex ve ince patiküllü Enamel Pro patları uygulanan gruplarda başlangıç ve tedavi sonrası yüzey pürüzlülüğü arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı düzeyde fark bulunmuştur p0.05. Sonuç: Profilometrik ve SEM analizlerine dayanarak çalışmamızda kullandığımız Enamel Pro patının her üç partikül boyutunda da, pomza ve Topex ile benzer yüzey pürüzlülüğü gösterdiği bulunmuştur
