A Comparison of the Effects of Prophylaxis Pastes on In Vitro Laser Fluorescence Caries Detection Measurements

Abstract

It was the aim of this study to examine the effects of cleaning with prophylaxis pastes/powder and toothpaste on the DD readings of teeth with dentinal caries. A total of 42 extracted molar teeth were used in this study. All teeth selected had a light fluorescent DDV reading of >18 at one occlusal site. Teeth were randomly distributed into 6 groups Nupro-Denstply, Topex-Sultan Healthcare, Enamel Pro-Premier Dental Products, Alpha Pro-Dental Technologies, Total 12-Colgate, PROPHYpearls-KaVo . After obtaining baseline readings, pastes/powder and tooth paste were applied, tooth surfaces were rinsed with water using a air/water syringe for 3 s, and DD measurements were taken. Rinsing was performed for an additional 3 s, and DD measurements were repeated. The lowest DDV was observed in Nupro and PROPHYpearls group, which were not significantly different from each other in all time intervals. When comparing of rinsing time, there was statistically significantly difference between DDV of Topex, Enamel Pro, Alpha Pro, Total 12 groups at 0-3, 0-6 s time intervals and between DDV of Enamel Pro, Alpha Pro, Total 12 groups at 3-6 s time intervals. When using the laser fluorescence method dentists must take into account that there are potential factors that can change the readings. Prophylactic products used in practice and in home care could interfere with DDV

Çürük teşhisinde kullanılan lazer floresan cihazının ölçüm değerleri üzerine profilaksi patlarının etkilerinin in vitro olarak karşılaştırılması

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, dentin çürüğü olan dişleri profilaksi patları/tozu ve diş macunu ile temizlemenin DD değerlerine olan etkilerini incelemektir. Bu çalışmada 42 adet çekilmiş molar diş kullanıldı. Seçilen tüm dişlerin oklüzal yüzeyinden okunan DD değeri >18’di. Dişler rastgele olarak 6 gruba ayrıldı Nupro-Denstply, TopexSultan Healthcare, Enamel Pro-Premier Dental Products, Alpha Pro-Dental Technologies, Total 12-Colgate, PROPHYpearls-KaVo . Başlangıç okuma değerleri kaydedildikten sonra diş yüzeylerine profilaksi patları/tozu ve diş macunu uygulandı. Diş yüzeyleri hava/su spreyi ile 3 s yıkandı ve DD ölçümleri yapıldı. Yıkama işlemi 3 s daha yapıldı ve DD ölçümleri tekrarlandı. En düşük DD değerleri Nupro ve PROPHYpearls gruplarında izlendi ve bu iki grup arasında tüm zaman aralıklarında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir farklılık belirlenmedi. Topex, Enamel Pro, Alpha Pro ve Total 12 gruplarının DD değerleri 0-3, 0-6 s zaman aralıklarında ve Enamel Pro, Alpha Pro ve Total 12 gruplarının DD değerleri 3-6 zaman aralığında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farklılıklar gösterdi. Diş hekimleri, lazer floresans metodunu kullanırken okuma değerlerini değiştirebilecek potansiyel faktörlerin olabileceğini göz önünde bulundurmalıdır. Profesyonel ve ev bakımında kullanılan profilaktik ürünler DD değerlerini etkileyebilir.
