The Relationship Between Psychological Violence, Burnout, And Psychological Resilience in Teachers

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between teacher burnout, psychological resilience, and experiences of psychological violence in the workplace. A quantitative survey was conducted with 307 branch teachers from Istanbul who participated voluntarily. The sample included 142 men and 165 women. Data were collected using four primary instruments: A Demographic Information Form, the Maslach Burnout Inventory–Educators Survey (MBI-ES), the Negative Acts Questionnaire (NAQ), and the Brief Resilience Scale (BRS). These tools measured levels of burnout, psychological resilience, and exposure to psychological violence. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation and one-way ANOVA to explore relationships among variables and demographic differences. The results revealed significant associations among psychological violence, burnout, and resilience. Specifically, psychological resilience increased with age and professional experience, while exposure to psychological violence was negatively correlated with personal accomplishment and positively correlated with emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. These findings underscore the need for strategies to strengthen teachers’ resilience and well-being in the face of workplace adversity.
