The Relationship Between Innovation and Family Planning Attitudes Among Women of Reproductive Age

Abstract

The aim of the research is to determine the relationship between individual innovativeness levels of women of reproductive age and their Family Planning (FP) attitudes. The research is a descriptive and correlational cross-sectional design. The universe of the study consists of women of active reproductive age (18-49 years old) living in our country. The research was completed with 672 women who met the inclusion criteria. The data of the research were collected online from all over Turkey between October 2023-January 2024 with the “Introductory Information Form”, Family Planning Attitude Scale- FPAS” and “Individual Innovation Scale- IIS”. The average age of the women participating in the research was 22.00±5.25. A relationship was found between the educational status of the women and the educational status of both the women and their husbands, and the region of residence and the FPAS (p<0,05). The total average score of the women on the FPAS was 64.19±13.06, and the total average score of the FPAS was 131.68±25.52. A statistically significant relationship was found between the FPAS and the FPAS at a moderate level and positively (p<0.05). The women were moderately innovative and their FP attitudes were at a good level. The introductory characteristics of the women affected their innovativeness and FP attitudes. As the innovativeness of the women increased, their positive attitudes towards FP increased. The research reveals that individual innovation is an important determinant in shaping women's approaches to FP. In this regard, it is recommended that nurses and health professionals include innovative methods and strategies in FP training and consultancy processes.
