The Effect of Defense Expenditures of Turkey and Selected World Countries on Economic Growth within the Scope of Neo-Classical Approach: Panel Data Analysis

Abstract

In this study, the relationship between defense expenditures and economic growth of Turkey and the top 15 countries that spend on defense was tested using the panel data analysis method for the years 2000–2021. In the study, a model was established between defense expenditures and economic growth. As a result of the examination of the established models, it was seen that the effect between defense expenditures and economic growth was negative. Its negative direction shows that the Neo-classical view is dominant. When the variable coefficients of the countries are examined, it is seen that the defense expenditures made for the Model reduce the economic growth for 12 countries, but it is understood that the defense expenditures made in the USA, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Israel affect the economic growth positively due to the development of these countries and their leadership in the arms trade. This positivity causes an increase in employment. Neo-klasik Yaklaşım Kapsamında Türkiye ve Seçilmiş Dünya Ülkelerinin Savunma Harcamalarının Ekonomik Büyüme Üzerine Etkisi: Panel Veri Analizi

Abstract

Bu çalışmada Türkiye ve savunma harcaması yapan ilk 15 ülkenin savunma harcamaları ile ekonomik büyüme arasındaki ilişkin 2000–2021 yılları için panel veri analizi yöntemi kullanılarak test edilmiştir. Çalışmada savunma harcamaları ve ekonomik büyüme arasında 1 model kurulmuştur. Kurulan modellerin incelenmesi sonucu savunma harcamaları ve ekonomik büyüme arasındaki etkinin negatif yönlü olduğu görülmüştür. Negatif yönlü olması Neo-klasik görüşün hakim olduğunu göstermektedir. Ülkelerin değişken katsayıları incelendiğinde Model için yapılan savunma harcamalarının 12 ülke için ekonomik büyümeyi azalttığı görülmüştür fakat ABD Rusya, Suudi Arabistan ve İsrail'de yapılan savunma harcamalarının bu ülkelerin gelişmişliği ve silah ticaretindeki öncülükleri sebebiyle ekonomik büyümeyi olumlu olarak etkilediği anlaşılmaktadır. Bu olumluluk istihdamında artmasına neden olmaktadır. Bu çalışma İslam Fatih KOÇAK'ın Benoit Hipotezinin Seçilmiş Dünya Ülkeleri Ve Türkiye İçin Geçerliliği: Panel Veri Analizi adlı tezinden türetilmiştir.
