Assessing YouTube as a Source of Information on Primary Prevention of Dental Caries

Abstract

Aim This study aimed to evaluate the quality, reliability, and engagement metrics of YouTube videos related to the primary prevention of dental caries. Material and method A systematic search was conducted on YouTube using predefined criteria. Videos were analyzed using standardized scoring systems, including DISCERN, the Global Quality Scale, and a customized rubric assessing content comprehensiveness. Conclusion The study highlights the risks of relying on unverified online sources for dental health education. The findings emphasize the need for improved content regulation, professional involvement in online education, and enhanced public awareness of credible health information sources.
