Newspapers and magazines are among the important sources of the modernization movement in the Ottoman period. In the years following the proclamation of the Tanzimat, newspapers and magazines, in which intellectuals and leading men of letters had the opportunity to publish their ideas and works on various subjects, were at the center of ideas and art with these aspect[s.] Again in the same period, magazines and newspapers published by women writers and poets have also been the main sources of issues such as the women's problem and Ottoman women's movements in the historical context. In addition, these organs are the sources where we can find the first works of Ottoman women's literature in the modern sense. Therefore, these magazines and newspapers are important as tools where we can read the ideas of women intellectuals and men of letters of the Ottoman period on various subjects and their literary works in different genre[s.] The aim of this article is to translate Şükûfezâr, the first women's magazine published by women, into contemporary Turkish and to make determinations about its place in Ottoman women's literature. The journal has only five issues in archives and collection[s.] For this reason, these five numbers have been translated in full, and the translation and writing guide of the Turkish Historical Society has been taken as a basis in the translation.
