Pasha Kazım is a famous character of Ankara renowned for his humorous character during the period of National Struggle and early times of the Republic. He had his pasha title after his role in a theater play during his pupillage in Damascus Military Academy. The title of pasha awarded by this play has remained as his epithet until the end of his life. Pasha Kazım has always become a favorite character in Ankara enough to have a seat at Atatürk’s dinner table and Anatolia trips. The main feature in his humorous character is his endeavors to explain scientific matters by analyzing the facts and amusing his addressee with his nonsensical sentences. Known by this aspect of his, Pasha Kazım has always made a distinguished name for himself in the conferences he attended, in his newspaper interviews and the letters he wrote to his friends and served as a source for the expression “Figment of Pasha Kazım” as used to define the illogical events. As of the National Struggle years, Pasha Kazım is also a humorist. He has written humorous texts in Anadolu’da Peyam-ı Sabah, Türk Hava Mecmuası, Hâkimiyeti Milliye. In this study, his articles shall be reviewed, and his humorous character shall be scrutinized from the view of his articles. The study is of utmost importance in terms of both introducing humorous character of the Republican era and addressing the role of humor to reach out to the society.
