Azerbaycan Halk Cumhuriyeti’nin (1918–1920) hâkimiyeti- ni yıkıp yerine Sovyet Sosyalist Cumhuriyetinin kurulması birçok aydının vatanı terk etmesiyle sonuçlandı. Göçmek zo- runda kalan bu insanlar uzun yıllar halkının esaretten kur- tulması için mücadele etti. Sovyet hâkimiyeti sadece Azer- baycan’ın servetlerine el koymamıştı, aynı zamanda halkın yarattığı edebiyat örneklerini da sosyalist ideolojiye göre ba- zen yasaklamış, bazen de tahrif ederek kendi ideolojisine uydurarak yaşamasına izin vermiştir. Göçte olan Azerbaycan aydınları bu baskıya karşı mücadele etmiş, halkın yarattığı bütün eserleri düzgün, tahrif edilmeden korunmasına, öğre- nilmesine çalışmıştır
After the government of the Azerbaijani National Republic
(1918–1920) was overthrown and the Soviet Socialist regime
was established, a lot of scholars and intelectuals had to
leave their motherland. These people, who had to emigrate,
fought to save their nation from enslavement for long years.
The Soviet government not only appropriated the national
resources of Azerbaijan, but also barred because of socialist
ideological reasons the literary works created by the nation
or in some cases allowed their existence only after those
literary works were distorted and adapted to its own
ideology. Azerbaijani scholars in the emigration fought
against this suppression and tried to study and protect all the folklore samples in their original, correct and undistorted
versions.
