Abstract

Abstract
Tooth decay is an infectious disease that affects public health. Recently, a decrease in its prevalence is observed in the world with the provision of oral hygiene and the development of fluoride-based dental materials. However, it is known that the prevalence of dental caries in our country is more advanced than the data determined by the World Health Organization. In this study, the synthesis and characterization of Hydroxyethyl methacrylate HEMA-based hydrogels releasing drug to prevent recurrence of dental caries was investigated. The swelling behavior of the prepared material was investigated by gravimetric methods. FT-IR spectra confirmed that the material was synthesizing successfully. Methylene blue was used as a model drug in this study. The adsorption capacity of pHEMA hydrogel was found to be 0.36 mg MB / gram dry gel and the release percentage was 43.78%. The results of this study suggest that pHEMA hydrogel can be used as a drug-delivering hydrogel to prevent recurrence of dental caries
