The Effects and Suggestions of Teachers and School Administrators on the Professional Development of Distance Education Experiences

Abstract

The aim of the research is to reveal the effects of distance education activities, which have increased gradually during the pandemic period, on the professional development of teachers, in line with the experiences of teachers and administrators working in official education institutions. This study is a qualitative study in descriptive survey model and designed in phenomenology (phenomenology) pattern. The study group of the research consists of 23 teachers and 7 school administrators working in public schools. Criterion sampling method was used to determine the participants. Findings were obtained by summarizing data, coding, frequency and percentage analysis. According to the research findings, educators have participated in distance education programs in various fields, especially computer aided design and programming, disaster education and museum education. Distance education has advantages such as preventing time loss, providing easy access to education at any time and providing a comfortable education environment. They prefer it to the disadvantage of reducing socialization, interaction and communication. They provide the professional development of the participants in the intellectual field, general and special field competencies and technology use competencies through distance education.
