Serum Creatine Phosphokinase as a Biomarker in Organophosphate Poisoning

Abstract

Organophosphorus (OP) poisoning is a significant public health problem, particularly in developing countries, and there is a need for accessible biomarkers. This paper evaluates the study entitled “Serum Creatine Phosphokinase as a Biomarker in Organophosphorus Poisoning.” The study's strengths include the correlation between serum creatine phosphokinase (CPK) levels and poisoning severity, and its cost-effectiveness as a test. However, the limited sample size and the small number of patients in the severe poisoning group limit the generalizability of the results. Furthermore, the specificity issues of CPK and concomitant clinical conditions that may affect its levels should be considered. In conclusion, while CPK is a promising biomarker in OP poisoning, more comprehensive studies are needed to clarify its clinical use.
