Abstract

Researching the history of economics itself is an extremely important issue in terms of revealing the transformation in this branch of science. This transformation emerged as a result of two important developments that took place in the 20th century. The first of these developments is that the "New Economic History (Cliometry)" movement, which includes quantitative methods in economic history studies, has been discussed intensively since the second half of the 20th century. The second is the 1993 Nobel Prize in Economics awarded to two American economists (Douglass C. North and Robert W. Fogel) working in the field of New Economic History. Thanks to these two developments, the increasing use of quantitative methods in economic history studies actually causes this branch of science to move away from its own research methods. The result of gradually moving away from his own research methods is the possibility of evaluating the contribution of economic history to economic science only through quantitative methods. Aiming to contribute to the elimination of such a possibility, this article presents a critical perspective on the use of quantitative methods, which is considered an important method shift in economic history studies.

İktisat Tarihinde Yöntem Kayması: Yeni İktisat Tarihi Akımına Eleştirel Bir Bakış
