Abstract
It is most of the importance that Turkey, which has been unable to avert its foreign trade deficit for many years, has competitive power in foreign trade, particularly against its neighbors. Despite the fact that trading with neighbors boosts the profitability due to transportation advantages, the evaluation of mutual competitiveness between countries is also essential for identifying the product categories in which these nations specialize. In this study, a general analysis is performed for Turkey’s competitiveness in the market of Georgia within the framework of foreign trade relations. In the study mentioned, the periods before and after the Covid-19 pandemic between the two countries were examined separately. To determine the comparative advantage of Turkey over Georgia in the period of 2019-2020, the RCA index which is developed by Balassa (1977) and covers the level of specialization of countries with competitiveness. According to the obtained results, Turkey’s decline of competitiveness in the beginning of 2019 against Georgia and the increase during the following months when the effects of the pandemic were severe and lockdown was in effect is seen. It is also observed that during the research period Turkey had a superior competitiveness against Georgia mainly in the aspect of goods.
