Abstract
If a society seeks to tell about itself and be understood or to understand “other” societies and build a long-term strategy within the framework of cultural diplomacy in a modern multicultural and multipolar world, it must appropriately represent its constants of culture as well as analyse the cultural constants of the other societies. In this context the problem of identification and translation of texts which can be characterized as constants of culture has to be highlighted. In this article the national anthem of the Republic of Turkey, the Independence March, the centenary of which was celebrated on March, 12, 2021, was considered as a constant of culture. A “rough Russian translation” of the Independence March published on the website www.wikipedia.org was found. This translation was analysed in the framework of translation-oriented text analysis and it was shown that the target text does not reflect the perspective and images embedded in the source text. Further, translation of the Independence March into Russian was made by us and analysis of the main translation transformations was provided. This paper uses the example of analysis and translation of the Independence March in order to highlight the necessity to actualize the problems of translating texts that act as constants of culture into Russian and other languages within the framework of the purposes of cultural diplomacy.
