Bibliometric Analysis of Articles on the Photogrammetry Technique in Implant-Supported Prostheses: A Methodological Study
Abstract
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the existing literature on the use of the photogrammetry technique in implant dentistry through bibliometric analysis, assess its publication performance, and provide guidance for future research.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted in the Web of Science (WoS) database on July 4, 2025, using the keywords “(photogrammetry OR photogrammetry technique) AND implant” in the “All Fields” category. The inclusion criteria were limited to English-language publications classified as “Article.” After excluding irrelevant records and applying filters for the WoS category “Dentistry Oral Surgery Medicine” and the index “Science Citation Index Expanded,” 56 articles published between 1999 and 2024 were included in the analysis. The data were exported in BibTeX format and analyzed using the Biblioshiny interface of the Bibliometrix package in RStudio.
RESULTS: The bibliometric evaluation identified 56 relevant publications across 19 different journals. The most frequently used keyword was “photogrammetry.” A notable increase in annual publication output was observed after 2014, peaking in 2024. The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry was the most productive source, while Spain ranked first in citation count, followed by the United States and Sweden. Most contributing authors and institutions were concentrated in Europe, particularly in Spain.
CONCLUSION: The rising number of publications and positive annual growth trend reflect increasing academic interest in the use of photogrammetry in implant-supported prostheses.
