CHILDREN’S RIGHTS TO PLAY AND THE CHANGING PLAY CULTURE

Abstract

Many social facts such as civil disturbance, domestic violence, unplanned and incorrect urbanization, virtual world include serious dangers which threaten today’s children and restrict their rights to play substantially. It is not an acceptable attitude for developed and modern societies to leave children alone with such insuperable complications.

Adopting all individuals of society to the consideration of children’s right to play, as a right and a responsibility, can merely be achieved not only by making appropriate national and international social policies but also implementing them to social life with legal regulations.

In this study, children’s right to play, which is contemporarily accepted as a right, and its local and global developmental stages are taken into account as the subject of the research. In particular, the significant regulations done by our country in accordance with child rights UN has identified, can rarely fulfill the needs and an emphasize has been done that children were quite incapable of fulfilling their rights.

A determination of this study is, because of incorrect urban planning of local and central government, the play has taken not enough part in education and in daily life, and of the reasons of not having been fully identified with national standards which in result have effects in indirect way on lacking children’s rights to participate in play and entertainment.
