Navigating the Digital Landscape: Adolescents' Literacy and Privacy Awareness
Abstract
Objective: The research was carried out to determine digital literacy levels and online privacy awareness among adolescents.
Methods: The sample of the descriptive and correlational study consisted of 374 adolescents studying at three high schools in the city center of a province in eastern Turkey, between February and March 2022.
Results: It was determined that 29.7% of the students participating in the study used the internet for 3–4 hours a day to study or play games. In the study, it was determined that 89% of the students had a membership in social networking sites and 32.6% had three or more social media accounts. It was determined that there is a positive and significant relationship between the level of digital literacy and awareness of online privacy.
Conclusion: The findings highlight the widespread use of digital devices and social media among adolescents, underscoring the importance of targeted educational interventions. School nurses should plan digital literacy and privacy education and evaluate its effectiveness to raise awareness.
