Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the follow-up
of obese and overweight individuals over the age of 18 who applied to an
obesity counseling unit in primary care.
This study is cross-sectional. The file records of 531 individuals who
consulted to the Obesity Consultation Unit of Narlıdere District Health
Directorate between April 2016 and June 2018, who are over 18 years of age and
has a Body Mass Index in the range of 25.0-39.9 kg/m2 were assessed.
The data of 228 individuals who continued their follow-up examinations were
analyzed. Descriptive findings are presented as frequency, percentage distributions
and mean values. In the analytical part of the study, the effect of independent
variables on dependent variables was evaluated by t-test and chi-square test.
SPSS 15.0 program was used for analysis. In this study, the majority of the
people who consulted to OCU were women, married, the mean age was 46.7 and the
mean weight loss was 3.12 ± 3.16 kg. The mean follow-up number was 1.72, and
the proportion of people with weight loss of 5% and over was 30.3%. The number
of follow-up is higher in patients with a weight loss of 5 percent or more,
than those less. As the number of follow-up increased, the proportion of people
with weight loss of 5% or more increased significantly. Obesity was prevented
in 9.8% of overweight individuals. It
was observed that the success of weight-loss increased amongst those who
consulted to the Obesity Counseling Unit. The follow-up period was short (below
6 months), so it is important to ensure continuity during the follow-up. It is
recommended to inform and raise awareness of the individuals, about the
increased success of weight-loss with the continuity of follow-up. It is also
important that obesity counseling units are supported with and managed by
primary care physicians.

Abstract

 Obezite
danışma birimlerinin birinci basamak hekimleri tarafından desteklenmesi
ve yönlendirilmesi önemlidir.
