A Sustainable Approach to Controlling the European rose chafer, Cetonia aurata (Linné, 1761) (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae): Entomopathogenic Nematodes

Abstract

In recent years, the European Rose Beetle, Cetonia aurata (Linné, 1761) (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) has been frequently reported to cause economic damage in orchards. The lack of a registered insecticide against this pest in Türkiye leaves the growers in a difficult situation. In this study, the biocontrol potential of Heterorhabditis bacteriophora against 2nd instar larvae of C. aurata larvae collected from apple orchards was investigated under laboratory conditions at different doses (50, 100, 200 IJ/larva). Mortality rates ranged between %25 and 65 10 days after treatment. The highest mortality rate (82.5%) was obtained 15 days after treatment at the dose of 200 IJ/larva. The results showed that H. bacteriophora has great biocontrol potential against C. aurata larvae.
