Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. niveum’un Irklarına Karşı Bazı Karpuz Çeşitlerinin Reaksiyonlarının Belirlenmesi

Year 2017, Volume: 46 Issue: 2, 69 - 77, 30.12.2017

Abstract

The Determination of Reaction of Some Watermelon Cultivars to the Races of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. niveum

Year 2017, Volume: 46 Issue: 2, 69 - 77, 30.12.2017

Abstract

Fusarium wilt, caused by Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. niveum
(FON), is one of the major
limiting factors for watermelon production around the world. In 2010 and 2011
the disease has been found to be widespread in the Province of Aydın. One
of the best control
measures to the disease is the use of resistant watermelon cultivars. In this study, the commonly grown
watermelon cultivars (Crimson Sweet, Crimson Tide, Galaxy, Wonder and Anthem
F1)  in the province of Aydın were tested
against the three races (Race 0, 1 and 2) of FON in growth chamber conditions.
As a result of the experiment, the reaction of each watermelon cultivar differs
depending on the race of the pathogen. Cultivar ‘Wonder’ exhibited the lowest
level of disease severity ranging from %9.0 to %35.3 depending on the races.
Crimson Sweet was found to be the most susceptible cultivar showing up to 77.7
% of disease severity.
