Development of the Links Between NANDA Nursing Diagnoses, Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC) and Nursing Interventions Classification (N!C):
For several years, the need for uniform or standardized nursing languages has been discussed in nursing literature. This article describes linkages between three of the standardized languages recognized by the American Nurses Association (ANA): the diagnoses developed by the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA), the interventions of the Nursing
Interventions Classification (NIC), and the outcomes of the Nursing Outcomes Class ification
(NOC). Standardized nursing languages and linkages of these languages can faci litate ·development for electronic nursing information systems. They can also assist educators m teaching clinical decision making and developing curricula and can be used by researchers to test
interventions. The linkages in literature are not meant to be prescriptive and do not replace the clinical judgment of the practitioner. The linkages presented here illustrate how three distinct nursing languages can be connected and used together when planning care for an individual patient.
Key words: NANDA, NOC, NIC, Linkages.
