In the Ottoman State, that the emperors celebrated their birthdays officially started in the 19th century. It is know that the former emperors also made unofficial celebrations. Abdülhamit, too, celebrated his birthday pompously both at home and abroad. Foreign statesmen and the press were interested in those celebrations. Banquets were held and amnesties were talked about in those celebrations. It was seen that people took part in the celebrations joyfully. The celebrations abroad were rallied mostly through the embassies. Foreign statesmen also took part in those celebrations and offered their good wishes. Again the celebrations appeared in both domestic and foreign press. Consequently, Abdülhamit did not stop this tradition that the Ottoman emperors had, either and celebrated his birthdays regularly.
