Kendi başına şarkı çalışması hiçbir suretle ender değildir (bazı ninniler aynı kategori içinde marjinal bir olay biçiminde olabilir). Darı öğütmek, inekleri sağmak, tarlalarda çalışmak ve kürek çekmek gibi birinin sıklıkla yerine getirdiği etkinlikler için şarkılar bulunmaktadır. Buna ek olarak İngiliz ve Amerikan halk şarkılarının uzatılmış koleksiyonu dışında Sharp’ın bestelediği ünlü bir şarkı vardır; ki Sharp, şans eseri bekçi John
