THERMODYNAMIC CRITICS OF UNDERGROUND NATURAL GAS STORAGE
Abstract
Countries, which cannot perform sufficient natural gas production, should incerase natural
gas stoarage facilities in order to meet the increased deficit between the supply and demand in
winter seasons. In Turkey, the construction of natural gas storage facilities in underground salt
caverns has been accelerated to meet the emerged deficit of supply and demand. For this
purpose, the compressibility factor, maximum gas storage capacity and gas hydrate formation
temperature of the natural gas stored in caverns, which are created in salt deposits, are
calculated with thermodynamic analysis in this paper.
