Abstract

As a new period in ancient historiography, AD II. beginning at the end of the century VIII. the period up to the end of the century is described as “Late Antiquity.“ The name that transformed the concept of late antiquity into an academic discipline has arguably been Peter Brown. During this period, fundamental religious, political, social and economic changes occurred in the western world and in the east of the Mediterranean. During this period, the most prominent mediator of the political, socio-cultural and economic interaction between west and east has been the historical Silk Road. As it is known, interaction between societies takes place in three ways; war, immigration and trade. Although the Silk Road is seen as a trade route, it is actually much more. Not only commodities but also beliefs were transported. It has become a symbol of prevailing power among societies. Peter Brown reveals the historical Silk Road, its development in Late Antiquity and its impact on that world under the influence of new ideas, new religious forces and new horizons
