SemanVIEW: A Modular Web Platform for Semantic BIM Integration and Visualization in Construction
Abstract
This study introduces SemanVIEW, a modular platform designed to enhance semantic BIM workflows by integrating semantic parsing, semantic enrichment, and interactive 3D visualization. Traditional BIM systems often remain limited to geometric representations, while semantic approaches aim to capture meaning, relationships, and contextual attributes. SemanVIEW addresses this gap by operationalizing enrichment through a semantic dictionary, ensuring IFC–ontology integration, and embedding real time querying and compliance validation. The platform was evaluated through case study testing, focusing on accuracy, coverage, efficiency, and usability. Results demonstrated high accuracy in semantic mapping, broad coverage of contextual enrichment, efficient performance with IFC files processed in under five seconds, and positive usability feedback from test users. These findings confirm that SemanVIEW not only consolidates theoretical advances but also delivers practical, reproducible outcomes for semantic BIM workflows. By bridging enrichment, querying, and visualization within a unified environment, SemanVIEW contributes to ongoing developments in semantic BIM and lays the foundation for interoperable digital twin applications. The study highlights its potential to improve traceability, compliance, and decision support, while pointing toward future directions in ontology expansion, BIM–GIS–IoT integration, and large scale validation.
