In this
article, 36 selected samples of public buildings (ministries, general
directors) in Ankara since the foundation of republic till now, are analyzed in
terms of visual composition at the urban scale and the scale of the building.
In the urban scale, K. Lynch's analysis methods were used to examine the
success of landmark creating. In the case of the building scale, although
building compositions belong to different periods and have different styles,
the figuring approaches were evaluated with visual analysis methods. In these
analyzes made at the building scale, Gestalt, R. Arnheim, H.Sanoff and J.
Joedicke's visual perception approaches were chosen as the method. In
conclusion, it is observed that symmetry dominate the structures of management
buildings constructed during the first and the second national period.
Moreover, investigating the examples made by foreign architects in the period
defined as intermediate period, it is observed that symmetry in some of the
structures is partially impaired and after 1950 this understanding has been
changed to make asymmetric and fragmented plan types.
