Late Antique – Early Islamic Ceramics Unearthed in the Yenice Höyük YNC-3 Area

Year 2024, Volume: 7 Issue: 1, 1 - 30, 30.06.2024

Abstract

The current study examines the Late Ancient Age-Early Islamic Period Ceramics that are acquired between 2015 and 2017 from the YNC-3 area during the excavations carried out in Yenice Höyük within the scope of Doğanpınar Dam Rescue Excavations. Ceramics acquired from the YNC-3 area, which was a rular settlement in ancient times, are consist of an important archeoloical find group that shows the technical, economic and cultural level of the period in which they were produced. Ceramics that are selected for the evaluation, consist of ceramics which are for daily use. It is understood that the ceramics similar to ones that were found in the nearby region are ceramic groups specific to Northern Syria. The acquired ceramics date back to the 7th century AD and later. In addition, it was understood that the YNC-3 settlement experienced a shrinkage due to the chaotic environment in the region during the 7th century AD and afterwards, and as a result of this shrinkage the density of ceramics was also decreased.

Yenice Höyük YNC-3 Alanında Ele Geçen Geç Antik – Erken İslami Dönem Seramikleri

Year 2024, Volume: 7 Issue: 1, 1 - 30, 30.06.2024
