Abstract

Bu makale, arşiv kavramının tarihî ve felsefi bağlamını Jacques Derrida’nın arşivlere dair yaklaşımlarını merkeze alarak incelemektedir. Derrida en temelde; arşivlerin sadece tarihin tarafsız kayıtlarını içeren bir organizasyon olmayıp, tarihsel bilginin öncelenmesi, seçilmesi, düzenlenmesi ve dışta tutulması gibi birbirini etkileyen süreçleri yansıtan karmaşık ve ideolojik bir yapı olduğunu belirtmiştir. Derrida; 1996 yılında yayımlanan “Archive Fever: A Freudian Impression” adlı eserinde arşivlerin muhtevasında “içerilmenin” ve “dışta tutulmanın” “sessizliklerin” ve “bastırılmış anlatıların” açığa çıkarılmayı bekleyen gizil unsurlar olduğunu ve bu unsurların keşfedilmeleri ve yeniden bir okumaya tabi tutulmaları vesilesiyle tarihî hadiselerin gölgede kalan yönlerinin açığa çıkarılabileceğini vurgulamıştır. Derrida arşivlerin ontolojisinde sadece “hatırlamanın” değil aynı zamanda “unutmanın” da içkin olduğunu iddia etmiştir.

Reading the Historical and Philosophical Context of Archives through Jacques Derrida

Abstract

This paper examines the historical and philosophical context of the concept of archives, focusing on Jacques Derrida's approaches to archives. Derrida fundamentally argued that archives are not merely neutral repositories of historical records, but rather complex and ideological structures that reflect interrelated processes such as the prioritization, selection, organization, and exclusion of historical knowledge. In his 1996 work "Archive Fever: A Freudian Impression", Derrida emphasized that within the content of archives lie latent elements of “inclusion” and “exclusion,” “silences,” and “repressed narratives,” which await discovery and reinterpretation. He argued that through the uncovering and rereading of these elements, the obscured aspects of historical events can be revealed. Derrida also contended that the ontology of archives encompasses not only “remembering” but also “forgetting,” both of which are intrinsic to their nature.
