Compliance Level of the Nurses’ to Ethical Codes and the Affecting Factors

Öz

Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate the compliance level of the nurses to ethical codes; and the factors affecting it during nursing practices. Method: This descriptive study was made on 810 nurses who worked at state hospitals with ≥200 bed capacity in a city located in Marmara Region. Nurses’ compliance level to the ethical codes was evaluated by converting ICN code of ethics into 14 items. Result: Two items mainly complied by the nurses were “As a nurse I respect human life, honour and rights “ 87% and “I don’t make discrimination on race, religion, age, color, gender, political and social situation during the community service” 86.3% . Two items minimally complied by the nurses were “As a nurse I share responsibility with the other citizens in organizing activity to meet the health and social needs of the community” 34.3% and “As a nurse I join the studies through my professional organization so as the social and economic working conditions of the nurses to be maintained in a balanced way” 35.9% . Nurses choosing nursing profession voluntarily, being satisfied with the profession, working in polyclinic and administration, and working only at night were complied with the ethical codes more. In addition polyclinic nurses were complied with the ethical codes more. The compliance level of the nurses to ethical codes wasn’t different according to the graduated school, age, gender and duration of their nursing occupation. Conclusion: In accordance with the results it is recommended that nurses should be enlighten about nursing ethic codes and attempts should be made to increase the professional satisfaction level of the nurses so that the nurse can comply with the ethical codes.

HEMŞİRELERİN ETİK KODLARA UYMA DÜZEYİ VE ETKİLEYEN FAKTÖRLER

Öz

Amaç: Çalışmanın amacı, hemşirelik uygulamaları sırasında hemşirelerinetik kodlara uyma düzeylerini ve etkileyen faktörleri değerlendirmekti. Yöntem: Bu tanımlayıcı araştırma Marmara Bölgesi’ndeki bir ilimizde yatakkapasitesi 200 ve üzerinde bulunan devlet hastanelerinde çalışan 810 hemşire üzerinde yapıldı. Hemşirelerin etik kodlara uyma düzeyi ICN’in etik kodları 14 madde haline getirilerek değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Hemşirelerin en çok uyduğu iki madde “hemşire olarak insan yaşamına, onuruna ve haklarına saygı duyarım” %87 ve “topluma hizmet verirken ırk, din, yaş, renk, cinsiyet, siyasal ve sosyal durum ayırımı yapmam” %86.3 idi. Hemşirelerin en az uyduğu iki madde “hemşire olarak, toplumun sağlık ve sosyal gereksinimlerini karşılamak için girişilen etkinliklerinsorumluluğunu diğer vatandaşlarla paylaşırım” %34.3 ve “hemşire olarak, mesleksel örgütüm aracılığı ile hemşireliğin sosyal ve ekonomik çalışmakoşullarının dengeli bir şekilde yürütülmesi için çalışmalara katılırım” %35.9 idi. Hemşirelik mesleğini isteyerek seçen, meslekten memnun olan,poliklinikte ve yönetimde çalışan, sadece gece çalışan hemşireler etik kurallara daha çok uymakta idi. Ayrıca poliklinik hemşireleri etik kurallara dahaçok uymakta idi. Mezun olunan okul, yaş, cinsiyet ve çalışma süresine görehemşirelerin etik kodlara uyma düzeyi farklılık göstermemekte idi.Sonuç: Bu bulgular doğrultusunda hemşirelerin etik kurallara uygun hareket etmeleri için etik kurallar konusunda bilgilendirilmeleri ve mesleki memnuniyet düzeylerinin artırılmasına yönelik girişimlerde bulunulması önerilmektedir
