The Contribution of MAGNET Marmara Permanent GPS Network Stations to Campaign GPS Measurements on Account of Seasonal Effects

Abstract

GPS signals are exposed to periodic seasonal effects which have periodicity from semidiurnal to years even decades. Defining and implementing the strategies to reduce these effects regarded as errors in GPS process will increase the quality of the GPS measurements and thereby process results. In this study, the GPS data recorded both, in 2001–2006, in MAGNET Marmara Permanent GPS Network stations which are operated within TURDEP Project Multi-Disciplinary Earthquake Researches in High Risk Regions of Turkey Representing Different Tectonic Regimes directed by TUBITAK, Marmara Research Center, Earth and Marine Sciences Institute and in the GPS campaign surveys in Marmara Region in 2002–2005 were processed. The coordinate time series, signal amplitudes, velocity field estimations and zenith path delay parameters obtained from the GPS data processes were analyzed to detect seasonal effects on GPS signals. The strategies for making future GPS campaign surveys better were generated as a result of these analyses

MAGNET Marmara Sürekli GPS Ağı İstasyonlarının Dönemsel Etkiler Açısından Kampanya GPS Ölçmelerine Katkıları

Abstract

GPS sinyalleri, periyodu yarım günlükten yıllar arası hatta onyıllar arası döneme kadar değişen periyodik dönemsel etkilere maruz kalmaktadır. GPS verilerinin değerlendirilmesi aşamasında hata olarak ortaya çıkan bu etkileri azaltacak stratejilerin belirlenmesi ve uygulanması, toplanacak verinin ve dolayısıyla değerlendirme sonuçlarının kalitesini artıracaktır. Bu çalışmada TÜBİTAK Marmara Araştırma Merkezi Yer ve Deniz Bilimleri Enstitüsü tarafından yürütülen TÜRDEP Türkiye'nin Deprem Riski Yüksek Jeo-Stratejik -ancak tektonik rejimleri farklı- Bölgelerinde Deprem Davranışının Çok Disiplinli Yaklaşımlarla Araştırılması projesi kapsamında Marmara Bölgesi’nde 22 sürekli GPS istasyonu ile işletilen MAGNET Marmara Sürekli GPS Ağı bünyesindeki 11 istasyonda 2001– 2006 döneminde toplanan veriler ve 2002–2005 döneminde Marmara Bölgesi’nde yapılan kampanya GPS ölçmeleri değerlendirilmiştir. Elde edilen koordinat zaman serileri, sinyal genlikleri, sinyal artıkları, hız kestirim değerleri ve zenit gecikme bilinmeyenlerinin dönemsel etkiler açısından analizleri yapılmıştır. Bu analizler neticesinde gelecek dönemlerde yapılacak kampanya GPS ölçmelerinin iyileştirilmesine yönelik stratejiler geliştirilmiştir.
