THE POSITION OF THE ETRUSCAN WOMAN IN SOCIETY IN THE LIGHT OF ANCIENT WRITERS AND INSCRIPTIONS

Abstract

Etruscan written and visual resources provide us with information about Etruscan women and male - female relationships in Etruscan society and provide the oppurtunity to comment on this topic. In this article, the position of Etruscan women in society and her social status are discussed especially through written sources. The ancient authors’ perspectives on the relationship between men and women in Etruscan society and information about Etruscan women in the inscriptions are examined. It is mentioned how the written sources are a starting point for Etruscan researchers and how the researchers comments on the social status of Etruscan women give us a new perspective. As a result, it is emphasized that Etruscan, who have a multicultural structure, preserve their unique side.

Abstract

Etrüsk yazılı kaynakları ve görsel kaynakları bizlere Etrüsk kadınları ve Etrüsk toplumundaki kadın-erkek ilişkileri hakkında bilgi vermektedir ve bu konu hakkında yorum yapma imkânı tanımaktadır. Makalede özellikle yazılı kaynaklar üzerinden Etrüsk kadınının toplumdaki yeri, sosyal statüsü ele alınmıştır. Antik yazarların görsel kaynaklardaki banket sahnelerini referans alarak Etrüsk toplumundaki kadın-erkek ilişkilerine bakış açıları ve yazıtlarda Etrüsk kadınları ile ilgili geçen bilgiler incelenmiştir. Etrüsk araştırmacıları için özellikle yazılı kaynakların nasıl bir başlangıç noktası olduğuna, buradan hareketle Etrüsk kadının sosyal statüsü hakkında araştırmacıların yaptıkları yorumların bize nasıl yeni bir bakış açışı kazandırdığına değinilmiştir. Sonuç olarak çok kültürlü bir yapısı olan Etrüsklerin kendine özgü yanlarını korudukları vurgulanmıştır.
