The Impact of Health Promotion Programs on Presenteeism: A Review of the Literature

Presenteeism
is defined as, the practice of coming to work despite illness, injury, anxiety,
etc. often resulting in reduced productivity. Health promotion programs are all
health, safety and wellness activities offered by a workplace. The aim of this
research is to examine the effectiveness of health promotion programs that have
been carried out to prevent sickness presenteeism. This study was based on the
scanning of the literature. Sixteen studies have been reached for the purpose
of research in electronic databases. Findings show that the inefficiency
associated with presenteeism can be reduced by health promotion programs, and
that investments in these programs increase the productivity of employees and provide
financial return to the institution.

İşte
var olamama (presenteeism) genelde verimliliğin düşmesine neden olabilecek
hastalık, yaralanma, anksiyete vb. durumlara rağmen çalışmak için işe gelinmesi
olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Yapılan araştırmalar bu durumun devamsızlıktan daha
fazla verimlilik kayıplarına yol açtığını saptamıştır. Sağlığı geliştirme
programı ise bir işyerinin sunduğu sağlık, güvenlik ve sağlıklı yaşam
etkinliklerinin tamamıdır. Bu makalenin amacı, sağlık nedenlerine bağlı ortaya
çıkan işte var olamamanın önlenmesine yönelik sürdürülmüş olan sağlığı
geliştirme programlarının etkililiğinin incelenmesidir. Bu çalışma alanyazın
taramasına dayalı olarak hazırlanmıştır. Elektronik veri tabanlarında yapılan
tarama sonucunda, araştırmanın amaç ve kriterlerine uygun 16 araştırmaya
ulaşılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgularda işte var olamama durumuna bağlı
verimsizliğin sağlığı geliştirme programları ile azaltılabileceğine ve bu
programlara yapılan yatırımların çalışanların verimliliğini artırarak kuruma
maddi getiri sağladığına dair bulgulara ulaşılmıştır.
