In
the study, clinical evaluation of a pyometra case developed following
medoroxiprogesteron acetat used in order to suppress the estrus cycle in a
bitch has been presented. The dog, weighted 50 kg received medroxyprogesteron
acetate as a contraceptive approximately 2 months ago was presented to the
Clinic at department of Obstetric and Gynecology at Faculty of Veterinary
Medicine with the complaint of having severe inappositeness, polydipsia,
poliurie and abdominal enlargement. Pyometra was diagnosed clinically and an
ovariohysterectomy operation was performed under the general anesthesia of
tiletamin+zolezepam and izofluran+oxsigen combination. Plasma progesterone
level was detected as 9, 7 ng/ml. The uterus taken the attention with its large
volume fallowing the operation was 15.6 kg. Consequently, this case of pyometra
has taken the attention in that it exceeds the weight of pyometra cases
reported that it could be up to 10 kg in large breeds.
