Yașlılıkta Alkol Kullanımına Bağlı İlaç Etkileșmeleri

Year 2015, Issue: 2, 116 - 130, 01.06.2015

Abstract

Drug-Alcohol Interactions Depending on Consumption of Alcohol in Elderly

Year 2015, Issue: 2, 116 - 130, 01.06.2015

Abstract

Drug-alcohol interactions are very improtant worldwilde health problems. Because of the increased chronical diseases, polypharmacy is very common among geriatric people. As a consequence, drug interactions occurs more often in elderly population. Alcohol can effect the metabolisms of some drugs by enzyme inhibition or induction. The interaction can be pharmacodynamic or pharmacokinetic. Alcohol can interact with medications resulting in severe health problems including death. Many different classes of medications can interact with alcohol such as antidepressants, antipsychotics, antibiotics, antidiabetics, antihistamines, antihypertensives, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, opioids, and anticoagulants. In this review, alcohol-drug interactions which are more common in elderly population were summarized.
