Effect Of Vitamin C Support On The Immune System After Cardiac Surgery

Abstract

Open heart surgery is performed with cardiopulmonary bypass and creates a strong inflammatory response to the body. This study was planned to see the effect of parenterally administered vitamin C on the immune system of patients who underwent open heart surgery in the first three days after surgery. It was conducted in two groups for patients who underwent open heart surgery at Dragos Bezmialem Vakıf University Hospital between 01.12.2019-14.11.2020. For the 1st group, 1000mg vitamin C support was given parenterally for the first three days and was carried out on a total of 30 patients, 19 female and 11 male. 2. Vitamin C support was not provided to the group. A total of 30 cases, including 16 women and 14 men, were made.Blood parameter monitoring (Hemogram, C-Reactive Protein: CRP, Albumin) was performed on Pre-Op, Post-Op 4th day and Post-Op 10th days. The diets of the patients were given as "Regime 1" for their nutrition on the 1st day of Post-Op, "Regime 2" for their nutrition on the 2nd day of Post-Op, "Regime 3" for their feeding until the post-Op 3 and 10th day. According to the hemogram and albumin results obtained from Pre-Op, Post-Op 4th day and Post-Op 10th day of 60 patients with and without vitamin C, there was no significant difference in albumin, leukocyte, neutrophil, eosinophil and basophil parameters between the two groups (p > 0.05). The postoperative 10th day CRP level was found to be statistically significantly lower in patients who were given vitamin C compared to patients not given vitamin C (p <0.05). More and detailed research is needed on the subject.

Açık Kalp Ameliyatı Sonrası C Vitamini Desteğinin Bazı Kan Parametreleri Üzerine Etkisi

Abstract

Açık kalp ameliyatı kardiopulmoner bypass eşliğinde yapılarak vücuda güçlü bir inflamatuar cevap oluşturur. Bu çalışma, açık kalp ameliyatı geçiren hastaların ameliyatından sonraki ilk üç gün parenteral yolla verilen C vitamininin bağışıklık sistemi üzerindeki etkisini görmek üzere planlanmıştır. 01.12.2019-14.11.2020 tarihleri arasında Dragos Bezmialem Vakıf Üniversitesi Hastanesinde açık kalp ameliyatı geçiren hastalara iki grup olacak şekilde yapılmıştır. 1. Grup için 1000mg C vitamini desteği parenteral yolla ilk üç gün verilip 19’u kadın, 11’i erkek olmak üzere toplam 30 hasta üzerinde yürütülmüştür. 2. Gruba C vitamini desteği sağlanmamıştır.16’sı kadıni 14’ü erkek olmak üzere toplam 30 vaka yapılmıştır. Kan parametre takibi (Hemogram, C-Reaktif Protein: CRP, Albümin) Pre-Op, Post-Op 4. gün ve Post-Op 10.günlerde yapılmıştır. Hastaların diyetleri, Post-Op 1. gündeki beslenmeleri için “Rejim 1”, Post-Op 2. gündeki beslenmeleri için “Rejim 2”, Post-Op 3 ve 10. güne kadar olan beslenmeleri için “Rejim 3” olarak verilmiştir. C vitamini verilen ve verilmeyen 60 hastadan Pre-Op, Post-Op 4. gün ve Post-Op 10. gün alınan hemogram ve albümin sonuçlarına göre, iki grup arasında albümin, lökosit, nötrofil, eosinofil ve bazofil parametrelerinde anlamlı bir farklılık saptanmamıştır (p>0.05). C vitamini verilen hastalarda postop 10.gün CRP düzeyi, C vitamini verilmeyen hastalara göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı düzeyde düşük olduğu saptanmıştır (p<0.05). Konu ile ilgili daha fazla ve detaylı araştırmaya ihtiyaç vardır.
