Görme Engelli Bireylerde Para Tanıma ve Kullanma Yöntemleri

Year 2020, Volume: 7 Issue: 2, 191 - 205, 28.08.2020
https://doi.org/10.21020/husbfd.686183

Abstract

Money Recognition and Using Methods in Visually Impaired Individuals

Year 2020, Volume: 7 Issue: 2, 191 - 205, 28.08.2020
https://doi.org/10.21020/husbfd.686183

Abstract

Objective: One of the biggest problems faced by visually impaired individuals is distinguishing and using money. This situation significantly affects the quality of life of individuals. For this reason, methods of recognizing the money of the visually impaired and the problems they face were examined. Material and Method: It is a qualitative study and 35 volunteers with visual impairment were included. Structured interview method was used to and when the data reached saturation, the study was terminated. The data are analyzed with descriptive and content analysis methods and shown as X, SS and%. Results: In the study, it was observed that the most problematic area were money recognition (57.0%), money counting (34.2%) and taking over money (34.2%). Three methods are used in activities that require money use; use of paper money, coins and credit cards. In paper money recognition, visually impaired individuals stated that they use methods of recognition from braille (8.5%), recognition from size (22.9%), with money recognition ruler (25.7%), getting help from family and friends (37.1%), getting help from foreign environment (17.2%), adjusting the amount and location of money in advance (25.7%), recognizing money by color (25.7%), and recognizing money itself (22.9%). Conclusion: It was observed that the problems experienced by visually impaired individuals in money use activities are not only in physical dimension (such as vision loss level), but also activity change and environmental factors are effective. Therefore, while determining the problems, not only the personal dimension of the event, but also the environmental and activity dimension should be examined.
