Investigation of compression and recovery performance of polyester carpets with different pile heights

Abstract

Resilience is one of the most important parameters that determines carpet quality and defined as the tendency of the pile yarns to return to their initial thickness after the load applied to the carpet surface is removed. Since the carpet surface is exposed to continuous walking traffic, it is expected to exhibit high resilience behavior. Carpet quality depends on carpet structural properties such as pile density and ground weave, as well as pile yarn properties such as yarn linear density, filament fineness, pile material and pile height. This study was conducted to investigate the performance of polyester pile yarns, which have been used increasingly as pile yarns in recent years, after compression and recovery test. In this context, polyester carpet samples with 6, 8 and 10 mm pile heights using 12, 16 and 20 mm lancets were produced using the Wilton type face-to-face weaving method. The results of statistical analysis showed that pile height has a significant effect on compression and recovery behavior.
