Abstract

The input of metallo-pharmaceutical to
biomedical research is of high remarkable effect in drug design either as
therapeutic, diagnostic or MRI imaging agents to mention few. Ranges of d -
orbital transition metals: Cu(II), Zn(II), Mn(II), Ni(II), and Cd(II) complexes
bearing Isoniazid-Ibuprofen mixed ligands have been synthesized. The prepared
complexes were characterized by using microanalytical, infrared spectroscopy
and CHN elemental analysis. FT-IR spectroscopic data showed that the ligands
coordinate to the metal ion via the oxygen and nitrogen donor atoms from
Isoniazid and oxygen of the carboxylic group and oxygen of the hydroxyl group
of Ibuprofen. The elemental analysis measurement supports an octahedral
geometry complexes proposed in line with the electronic structures of the metal
ions. Comparative antibacterial study of the synthesized metal complexes and
their parent ligands against Escherichia
Coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas
aeruginosa microorganisms were carried out. [Ni(ISO)(IBR)Cl2]
and [Co(ISO)(IBR)Cl2] exhibited the highest antibacterial activities
than other complexes, however, the metal complex activities were found higher
than the free ligands.
