İzmir'deki lise öğrencileri arasındaki sigara içme prevalansı ile bunu etkileyen faktörleri belirlemek amacıyla planlanan bu çalışma kapsamında lise 1.sınıfta okuyan 710 öğrenciye (319'i erkek, 391'i kız; yaş ortalaması 15.7±0.8) ayrıntılı bir anket uygulandı. Sigara içme prevalansının %26.7 (erkeklerde %28.8, kızlarda %25.1) olduğu izlendi. Öğrencilerin %82'i sigaraya özenti nedeniyle başlamış, %24.8'u sigarayı bırakmış, %47.4'i bırakmayı düşünüyordu. Öğrencilerin sigaraya başlama yaşı düştükçe ya da sigara içme süresi arttıkça, bir günde tüketilen sigara miktarı artmaktaydı
This study was planned to determine the prevalence of smoking and factors affecting the smoking habit among the high school students in İzmir. A detailed questionnaire was applied to 710 students (319 were male, 391 were female; mean age was 15.7±0.8), who were at the first class of the high school. The prevalence of smoking was 26.7% (for males 28.8%, for females 25.1%). 82% of the students had begun smoking because of imitation.24.8% had quitted and 47.4% intended to quit. The amount of cigarettes that were daily smoked increased as the ages of students were getting younger or smoking habit durations were getting longer. There was a statistically significant relation between the education status of parents and smoking rates of children
