MALİGN MEZOTELYOMADA KANSER BELİRTEÇLERİNİN ROLÜ: RETROSPEKTİF BİR ÇALIŞMA

Abstract

Malign Mezotel yoma (MM) etiyolojisinde çevresel ve mesleksel asbest teması olan bir kanser türüdür. Bölgemizde çevresel asbest teması nedeniyle MPM sık görülen bir hastalıktır. Bu çalışmada temel onkolojik belirteçlerinin MM’daki seviyelerini değerlendirmek amaçlanmıştır. Üniversite hastanesinde takip edilen toplam 30 MM (20 plevral ve 10 peritoneal) hastasının dosyaları retrospektif olarak incelendi. Bu amaçla karsinoembriyonik antijen (CEA), karbonhidrat antijeni 15-3 (CA 15-3), karbonhidrat antijeni 19-9 (CA 19-9), karbonhidrat antijeni 72-4 (CA 72-4), karbonhidrat antijeni 125 (CA 125) ve alfa-fetoprotein (AFP) sonuçları dosyalardan alındı. Hastaların on beşi erkekti ve yaş ortalaması 54.6 ± 13.9 yıldı. On iki hasta Ergani üç hasta ise Çermik ilçesinden başvurmuştu. Yirmi iki hastada (%73) asbest teması pozitifti ve ortalama asbest temas süresi 23 yıldı. On yedi hastada epitelyal tip saptandı. Ortalama AFP 2.09±1.53 IU/ml, CA125 139.7±476.5 U/ml, CEA 4.99±13.23 ng/ml, CA19-9 10.25±10.63 U/ml, CA153 36.47 ±26.82 U/ml ve CA 724 1.01±0.25 U/ml olarak bulundu. Ortalama CA125, CEA ve CA153 düzeyleri laboratuar normal değerlerine göre yüksek bulundu diğer belirteçlerin seviyesi ise normaldi. MM oldukça fatal seyreden ve tedavi seçeneklerinin sınırlı olduğu bir kanserdir. Hastalığın tanı ve tedavi takibinde belirteçlere ihtiyaç olabilmektedir. Kanser belirteçlerinin hastalıktaki rolü için geniş serili çalışmalara ihtiyaç vardır.

THE ROLE OF CANCER MARKERS IN MALIGNANT MESOTHELIOMA: A RETROSPECTIVE STUDY

Abstract

Malignant mesothelioma (MM) in the etiology of cancer is a type of environmental and occupational asbestos exposure. MPM due to environmental asbestos exposure is a common disease in our region. This study aimed to assess the levels of basic oncological markers in MM. A total of 30 MM (20 pleural and 10 peritoneal) patients were evaluated retrospectively in University Hospital. For this purpose, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and Carbohydrate antigen 15-3 (CA 15-3), Carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9), Carbohydrate antigen 72-4 (CA 72-4), Carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA 125) and alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), the results were included in the files. Fifteen patients were male and mean age was 54.6 ± 13.9 years. Twelve patients admitted to the town of Ergani and three Cermik. Twenty-two patients (73%) were positive for asbestos exposure to asbestos and the mean exposure time 23 years. Seventeen patients had epithelial type. Mean level of AFP 2.09±1.53 IU/ml, CA125 139.7±476.5 U/ml, CEA 4.99±13.23 ng/ml, CA19-9 10.25±10.63 U/ml, CA153 36.47±26.82 U/ml and CA724 1.01±0.25 U/ml were found. Mean CA125, CEA and CA153 levels were significantly higher than the laboratory normal values and the normal level was found other markers. MM is a highly fatal cancer and treatment options are limited. Markers of disease diagnosis and treatment monitoring may be needed. Large series studies are needed for Cancer markers role in disease.
