Determination of Yield and Quality Traits of Some Black Cumin Genotypes (Nigella sp.) Under Irrigated and Dry Conditions

Abstract

This study was carried out in Kahramanmaraş conditions in the winter growing season of 2020-2021 in order to determine the plant characteristics of some black cumin genotypes (Nigella sp.) in irrigated and dry conditions. The experiment was established according to the split plot design with 3 replications. 8 different black cumin genotypes were used as material in the study (N. damascena, Çameli variety, Urfa, Denizli, Gaziantep, Konya, Kilis and Nurhak) and two different applications were made as irrigated and dry. In the black cumin genotypes grown in irrigated and dry conditions; plant height, first branch height, first capsule height, number of branches, number of capsules per plant and number of grains per capsule were examined. According to the data obtained in the study; It was observed that higher values were reached in most of the examined characteristics in irrigated application compared to dry application. When some of the examined characteristics were examined; plant height was between 29.45-48.86 cm in irrigated application, while it was between 21.33-35.52 cm in dry application. The number of capsules per plant was determined as 6.50-9.60 plant-1 in irrigated application, while it was determined as 3.00-6.80 plant-1 in dry application. The number of grains per capsule was determined as 62.56-112.43 capsule-1, while it was determined as 26.20-91.06 capsule-1 in dry application. As a result, irrigation provided positive developments in many plant characteristics, as well as significant increases in yield elements such as the number of capsules and the number of grains per capsule. In terms of the genotypes used, Çameli variety, Urfa genotype and Nurhak genotype stood out in terms of many characteristics. If irrigation is possible in black cumin cultivation, irrigation is definitely recommended.
