Water pump performance as a part of the cooling system has a significant effect on engine efficiency. Due to the complex nature of the cavitation and the high cost and unavailability of expensive testing equipment, most researchers conduct numerical studies, but this paper presents an industrial experimental process to investigate the corrosion behavior of the water pump impeller in EF7 engines in high cavitation conditions. Impeller material in the coolant water pump is a sensitive parameter. In the Basa Pars Sanat factory, a polyphenylene sulfide impeller was used in a water pump which had thermal and erosion resistance, but it supplied a low flow rate which is not a proper option to continue the production. So, the most productive impeller with a sheet metal structure was investigated to achieve the highest flow rate and the lowest manufacturing cost. Therefore, choosing a steel alloy with high sheet tension and then electroplating on it is a more reasonable and economical option. In this research, the aim is to investigate the corrosion resistance of water pump impeller with different types of coating, such as dacromet, galvanized and chromate, by cavitation and durability tests. In addition to the test results, the cost and availability of plating should be considered when selecting the coating for the impeller.
