FRACTAL ART AND ITS NON-MENTIONED ARTISTS

Abstract

With the scientific theories progressed since the end of the 19th century and the quantum physics that developed from them, the society opened its doors to a new world view. Fractal geometry offers an opening against the mechanical science worldview, which sees the world in terms of analysis, quantity, and mechanism. Nature, therefore life, shows a nonlinear structure that includes periods of stagnation, fluctuations and sudden jumps. In this respect, while fractals constitute a response to the new understanding of the world, they also take their place as embodied forms of the living and dynamic universe and its perception in art. In Turkey, although fractals are taken as the subject of the thesis and the articles in the context of reflection on contemporary art, fractal art and artists has not been taken under a separate heading. This article focuses on the fractalist artists who are not dealt much besides the artists who work with digital images of fractal art created by calculating fractal functions which are also both conceptually and technically pioneers of digital art works of the 21st century. These artists that this article will focus are the artists who basically develop their artistic understanding and styles through discussing fractal thinking conceptually.

FRAKTAL SANAT VE DİLE GELMEYEN SANATÇILARI

Abstract

19. yüzyılın sonlarından itibaren geliştirilen bilimsel teoriler ve bunlardan beslenerek gelişen kuantum fiziği ile toplum yeni bir dünya görüşüne de kapılarını açmıştır. Fraktal geometri dünyayı analiz, nicelik, mekanizma açılarından gören, kapalı ve mekanik bilim dünya görüşüne karşı bir açılım sunar. Doğa, dolayısıyla yaşam, durgunluk dönemleri, dalgalanmalar ve ani sıçrayışlar içeren lineer olmayan bir yapı göstermektedir. Bu bakımdan fraktaller, yeni dünya anlayışına karşılık bir cevap oluştururken bir yandan da sanatta da yaşayan ve devinen evrenin ve algılayışın somutlaştırılmış biçimleri olarak yerini alır. Türkiye’de fraktaller çağdaş sanattaki yansımaları bağlamında makalelere, tezlere konu olmakla beraber fraktal sanat ve sanatçılar ayrı bir başlık altında ele alınmamıştır. Bu makalede 21. yüzyılın dijital sanat çalışmalarının hem kavramsal hem de teknik anlamda öncüllerinden olan Fraktal sanatın fraktal fonksiyonların hesaplanmasıyla oluşturulan dijital görüntüleriyle çalışan sanatçılarının yanında pek de ele alınmayan ve temel olarak fraktal düşünceyi kavramsal açıdan ele alarak sanatsal anlayışlarını ve biçemlerini geliştiren sanatçılar üzerinde durulmuştur.
