Retrocuspid Papilla: A Case Report
Abstract
Retrocuspid papilla (RCP) are defined as sessile, pink or red papules with diameters ranging from 2-3 mm. These lesions are predominantly located in the adherent gingiva on the lingual aspect of canine teeth in the mandible. RCP has been predominantly observed in children and young adults, with a tendency to diminish or cease with advancing age. Given these characteristics, it is considered a variant of normal tissue, but it should be differentiated from pathological gingival lesions such as giant cell fibroma and papilloma. The aim of this case report was to increase awareness of the RCP structure and to prevent unnecessary surgical procedures.
