Comparative analysis of multiband THz patch antennas with asymmetrical rectangular slots for 6G networks

Abstract

This paper presents square patch antenna designs for 6G networks operating at Terahertz (THz) frequencies. The proposed antennas, featuring asymmetrically placed rectangular slots, radiate at 1 THz and 1.8 THz-both within the projected frequency bands for 6G. To investigate the effects of different dielectric materials, four substrates are used such as Arlon AD350A, polyamide, polyimide, and silicon. The introduced slots primarily affect the 1.8 THz band, increasing the antennas’ impedance bandwidths by up to 7.44% for this band, while the bandwidth for the 1 THz band remains almost unchanged. Thanks to the proposed geometry, it is possible to control the operating bands by adjusting the edge parameters of the slots. Moreover, since these parameters are independent of one another, four distinct variables can be used to fine-tune the antenna's performance, which is crucial for meeting the demanding requirements of 6G communication systems.
